🧘‍♀️ Ashwagandha

Traditionally used to reduce cortisol and manage stress, this adaptogen can result in a soothing feeling and sense of calm that can in-turn reduce anxiety and even have a positive impact on those experiencing depression.

A 2021 study in perimenopausal women found that it can significantly enhance quality of life and reduced physical, psychological, and urogenital symptoms - that's vaginal dryness, irritation and itching, FYI.

When you didn't think it could get much better, it's also reported to have aphrodisiac qualities that may enhance libido.

Ashwagandha... we adore you.

🥊 Zinc

Zinc contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, which is of particular interest to us women in perimenopause since when we experience a drop in oestrogen, this causes an increase in oxidative stress. Zinc helps to counter this imbalance. Zinc is our friend!

A reduction of oestrogen can also allow inflammation to increase and cause joint pain. Zinc is an anti-inflammatory, and can help as a preventative measure to the higher risks of osteoporosis in later life.

Proving to be another super-nutrient of sorts, Zinc may help to fight acne and improve skin complexion too!

🧬 Magnesium

Feeling knackered? We feel you. Magnesium can help to reduce tiredness and fatigue, one of the most common symptoms women may experience whilst in perimenopause, by helping to turn food into energy fuel.

Magnesium also joins forces with Zinc, helping to reduce the inflammation and support healthy bones to prevent or provide relief from joint pain.

Sleep is one of the most common symptoms and Magnesium has been shown to help out here, regulating your body’s circadian rhythms and increasing muscle relaxation.

✊ Iron

Iron's main purpose is to carry oxygen in the haemoglobin around the body so that your cells can produce energy. Feeling low on energy? You may be iron deficient.

Too little iron may also increase risk of infection, another key reason we included in Daily Essential, to support a fully functioning immune system

Your oestrogen and progesterone levels start fluctuating during perimenopause, preparing your body to stop its menstrual cycle. This can cause irregular periods and heavy bleeding. Naturally, the more blood lost per month, the more iron is lost with it. It's so important we prevent iron depletion with a trusty elixir like we've got here. We've got you ✊

💛 Curcuminoids

The main active ingredient in turmeric, known to have benefits for the brain and body. It helps fight inflammation as an anti-inflammatory as well as increase the antioxidant capacity of the body.

Curcumin has shown some promise in treating mood disorders. Positive effects on the brain include boosting the brain neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine, reducing inflammation, and encouraging brain plasticity.

It may also help improve memory and attention, rounding off a tonne of brilliant brain boosting benefits of this pungent yellow beauty. Careful, we won't be held accountable for any yellow stains!

💅 Selenium

Selenium contributes to normal thyroid function, of which the thyroid’s primary job is to produce hormones that regulate a variety of functions within the body. That sounds right up our street, right?! Those functions specifically include: metabolism, heart function, digestion, muscle control, bone maintenance, mood regulation, and brain development.

So all the pretty important ones!

It's been shown that women with compromised thyroid health may experience more severe menopausal symptoms, hence the importance of maintaining a healthy thyroid, and hence why we thought it was vital to include Selenium in Daily Essential.

💃 Chromium

Chromium helps manage blood glucose levels, important when going through perimenopause as we experience an increased insulin resistance due to low oestrogen and progesterone, which even makes us more prone to type 2 diabetes.

The shift in hormone levels we experience changes how cells respond to insulin. Insulin helps to keep our blood sugar levels under control, so these peri/menopausal hormonal shifts can trigger fluctuations in blood sugar levels, too.

If blood sugar levels are too high, this can lead to weight gain, which is why we included Chromium in the Daily Essential formula to help combat unwanted weight gain.

🌞 Vitamin D3

Vitamin D deficiency in women reduces testosterone production, leading to fatigue, weight gain, mood swings, hair loss, and more. We know... awesome, right!? Not exactly.

So for women who are in peri/menopause, we begin to have a deficiency of sex hormones and so, you guessed it, vitamin D supplementation is extremely important - so we slipped in 200% of your RDA given how essential this nutrient is.

Some studies have shown vitamin D can also help stabilise your emotions and moods too, and it's widely considered to be the most important vitamin for women.

👯‍♀️ Vitamin B6

B vitamins are crucial for mood regulation and energy production, and help to reduce fatigue - all sounds needed so far...

Vitamin B6 also helps make serotonin, a chemical responsible for transmitting brain signals. As we age, serotonin levels drop. It's these fluctuating serotonin levels that may be a contributing factor to mood swings and depression. Daily Essential contains 100% of your RDA, and so with some luck (and science!) may help tame symptoms caused by low serotonin levels, including the lack of energy and depression.

Vitamin B6 may also be one answer to alleviating increased agitation, depression and anger.

🦄 Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 deficiencies alter how we think and feel, often making us more irritable and lead to feelings of anxiety and depression which can heighten perimenopausal symptoms.

A deficiency in B12 is also linked with fatigue, weakness, balance problems, numbness in the feet and hands, confusion and depression.

But let's not focus on the bad things, we've developed a product that's got plenty of B12 in there to combat these symptoms. We're turning up here fighting!!

🦴 Vitamin K2

Vitamin K2 plays a key role in preventing osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease by inhibiting vascular calcification and increasing calcium uptake into the bones. Be strong, ladies.

The science is still in its early stages, but researchers believe they've found a connection between Vitamin K2 and anxiety. The link has been made because K2 helps you keep blood glucose levels stable, and it therefore helps regulate your mood. That mood stability is going to help you respond and not react to what life throws at you.
