As a woman of a certain age, my love affair with Bridget Jones has spanned 25+ years. She has mirrored my hedonistic twenties, disastrous attempts at love, the chaos of motherhood, and now, she walks proudly beside me into midlife.

Bridget has always been my chosen family.

I see myself in her, in the friendships that feel like siblings, in my relationships, and in the societal conditioning we’ve all spent a lifetime navigating. Where, yet again, there’s an expectation - to age quietly, invisibly.

But what I loved about this film was its complete disregard for aging shamefully. It didn’t mourn youth; it celebrated growing older.

Ageing isn’t a loss - it’s a privilege.

Time strips away the insignificant, leaving what truly matters. As Bridget’s dad shares with her “It's not enough to survive Bridget, you've got to live,” then midlife isn’t an ending - it’s a beginning.

The world tells us to slow down, to fade into the background, to accept that the best is behind us. But Bridget, in her perfectly imperfect way, reminds us that’s a lie...

She has always been an emblem of resilience, of stumbling, falling spectacularly, and still getting back up. And in this chapter, she proves that even at 50, life is still messy, painful, joyful, hilarious, and most of all, ours to live.

Here’s to the Bridget in all of us and truly remembering to live!

Love, Valerie
